Difference between stop valve and gate valve

Concept:
1. What is stop valve
Stop valve, also called stop valve, is one of the most widely used valves. It has small friction between the sealing surfaces in the process of opening and closing, which is more durable, less opening height, easy manufacturing and maintenance. It is not only suitable for medium and low pressure, but also for high pressure.
2. What is gate valve
The gate valve is a gate with opening and closing parts. The movement direction of the gate is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid. The gate valve can only be fully opened and fully closed, and cannot be adjusted and throttled.
difference:
1. How it works
When the stop valve is opened and closed, it is rising stem type, that is to say, turning the hand wheel will rotate and lift along with the stem. The gate valve rotates the hand wheel to make the stem move up and down, and the position of the hand wheel itself remains unchanged. The flow rate is different. The gate valve is required to be fully open or fully closed, while the stop valve is not required. The stop valve has specified inlet and outlet directions; the gate valve has no requirements for inlet and outlet directions.
Gate valve can only be fully open or fully closed. The stroke of gate opening and closing is very large, and the opening and closing time is long. The movement stroke of the valve plate of the stop valve is much smaller, and the valve plate of the stop valve can be stopped at a certain place during the movement for flow regulation. The gate valve can only be used for truncation without other functions.
2. Structure
Compared with the stop valve, the gate valve has a more complex structure and a larger height dimension. From the appearance, the gate valve is shorter and higher than the stop valve, especially the rising stem gate valve needs a higher height space.
3. Sealing surface
The sealing surface of the gate valve has a certain self sealing ability, and its valve core is tightly contacted with the sealing surface of the valve seat, so that it is tight without leakage. The sealing surface of the stop valve must be closed by force to achieve sealing.
4. Rheostat
When the gate valve is fully opened, the whole flow passage is straight through, and the operating pressure loss of the medium is the smallest. Compared with the stop valve, its main advantage is small flow resistance.
5. Flow direction
The flow direction of gate valve has the same effect in both directions. There is no requirement for the installation of inlet and outlet direction, and the medium can flow in two directions. The stop valve should be installed in strict accordance with the direction indicated by the arrow of the valve body. There is a clear regulation on the direction of the inlet and outlet of the stop valve. According to the "three chemical supplies" of China's valves, the flow direction of the stop valve should be from top to bottom.
The cut-off valve is low inlet and high outlet. From the appearance, it is obvious that the pipeline is not on the same phase horizontal line. The gate valve flow path is on a horizontal line. The stroke of gate valve is larger than that of stop valve.
